Laguna under the Bridge of Sighs

The XVI. The Bridge of Sighs (Ponte del Sospiri) connecting the Doge's Palace with the Piombi prison was built at the end of the 19th century. It spans over the Rio di palazzo canal for about 8 meters. According to popular belief, the loud sighs of prisoners escorted to prison from the palace could be heard.
