The building in the picture is the Doge's Palace (Palazzo Ducale) in Venice. For centuries, the palace was the residence of the head of the Republic of Venice, the Doge, and the center of state power. The building is a masterpiece of Venetian Gothic, and its current form was mainly acquired in the 14th and 15th centuries. It is located in the heart of the city, in St. Mark's Square, right next to St. Mark's Basilica. Today, it operates as a popular museum belonging to the Museo Civici Veneziani.
