Description

A medium-sized, deciduous or semi-deciduous tree native to the subtropics of southern Africa.

It has a characteristic thick, dark, rough bark that is cracked into rectangular sections.

Its leaves turn a beautiful yellow or deep red in autumn.

All parts of the tree are poisonous, including the milky sap and smoke produced when the wood is burned, so it should be handled with care.

The wood of the tambot tree is extremely valuable for making furniture and can also be used as an insect repellent.
