Hall of Caryatids in the Erechtheion temple
Description
The building in the picture is the Erechtheion temple on the Acropolis of Athens, including the famous Hall of the Caryatids.
The Erechtheion is an ancient Greek temple built on the north side of the Acropolis in Athens.
The temple was one of the most sacred places in ancient Athens, dedicated to Pallas Athena and Poseidon.
The Hall of the Caryatids (also known as the Porch of the Virgins) is located in the southern part of the temple and is supported by six columns (caryatids) depicting female figures.
The original caryatids are now kept in the Acropolis Museum, while the statues on display in the temple are copies.
