Description

The image shows the Jade Buddha Temple (Yufo Si) in Shanghai.

The temple is a Buddhist monastery founded in 1882 to house two jade Buddha statues brought from Burma by a monk named Huigen.

The temple follows the Chan and Pure Land traditions of Mahayana Buddhism.

The temple's name, Yufo, literally means "Jade Buddha".

The stone lion in the image is located at the entrance to the temple and is traditionally considered the temple's protector.
